In 2006, I spent two weeks in China as part of my MBA experience. There, we studied the Chinese culture, economy, and businesses. One of the more popular local art topics in Xian was the plum blossom on rice paper.
A translator explained that the plum blossom represents the interconnection and inseparability of integrity and prosperity. The five petals represent longevity, prosperity, health, virtue, and good living.
The plum tree also blossoms in late winter, before spring, and it is a sign of endurance and good things to come.
On that day, I purchased the painting shown here and it has been hanging in my office ever since.
